Pedestrian in New York Struck by Bicyclist

Bicycle AccidentAccidents happen when we least expect them. Most of the time, we are going through our everyday day lives and in a split second, something traumatic happens. A lot of times the other person is at fault. The lawyers at Alvin H. Broome and Associates are experienced in helping those who have been injured and are not at fault.

A pedestrian in New York was left in critical condition after being struck by a bicyclist in Central Park. The woman was in her 50’s and was hospitalized at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. The bicyclist was taken to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital with minor injuries.

The 31-year-old cyclist remained at the scene. There were no tickets or charges issued. Although it was considered an accident, people in the park say that it is a problem. “There’s a lot of traffic. A lot of people. It’s Central Park so you have to be careful,” bicyclist Chris Wershoven said.

It is unclear how the woman was hit or who was at fault, but both bicyclists and pedestrians agree that it can be a dangerous spot. “There’s a lot of people doing everything around here. I see cyclists going the wrong way down the lane. It’s not one-sided, but no one is paying attention to where they want to be, and there’s people going fast, and people get hit,” cyclist Phil Sturgeon said.

Police from the Central Park precinct have been progressive in warning bicyclists to slow down.
